1954 Jaguar XK 120 DHC - Classic Cars

French delivery, matching numbers!
Meticulously restored between 1983 and 1985, owned by the consignor in Austria since 1998!

Over 560 visitors to the 1948 London Motor Show in Earls Court marvelled at the completely new Jaguar XK 120. The 120 in its name stands for a top speed of 120 mls/h, so almost 200 km/h! The delightfully shaped body is driven by a 3.4 litre engine with double camshaft. The XK 120 convertible, called the DHC, was presented in autumn 1953.
Replaced by the XK 140 as early as 1954, only 1,767 units were built.
br> This Jaguar XK 120 DHC was registered for the first time in France on 22 June 1954 and driven by its first owner until 1980. It received off-body restoration from 1983 to 1985, assisted by H. Maechler in Strasbourg, president of the Jaguar Club France at the time. An extensive photo documentation confirms the immense effort invested in its restoration. The consignor purchased the convertible from H. Maechler in 1999. By then the Jaguar had already driven another 42,000 kilometres or so. The car received another technical overhaul in 2000. A 420 G gearbox with overdrive was fitted, along with a longer rear axle. An aluminium water cooler, additional fan and an oil cooler were installed to keep the temperatures stable. The original engine number F29538 was also reworked and combined with Kenlowe aluminium swingarm, electronic ignition and a two-pipe VA exhaust system with racing header. Taken together, all these factors truly enable the predatory cat to reach a top speed of 200 km/h, which made the installation of disc brakes at the front a sensible idea. The Burmann steering was also refurbished over the years. A specialist in London renewed the roof perfectly in 2010. Entirely waterproof, it protects the interior that was restored at the time in France. The leather and wood exude the sophisticated nobility of an English club. Not entirely pristine, but perfect nevertheless. A modern Becker Mexico Classic radio with CD changer, navigator and telephone keep contact with the outside world alive.

it appears almost as if the 30 years have left no traces in the body number P2586. There is no greater compliment to pay a successful restoration. The consignor used the car for extended trips to the South of France, to Copenhagen and Italy. Today, this XK 120 DHC convincingly underlines the vehicle’s elegance and quality. But even more impressive is its performance, which continues to show modern road users just how majestic and superior this beautiful car truly is. A clear statement in favour of purity and culture!
