1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider Touring

1965 Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider Touring - Classic Cars

Restored in Germany 25 years ago!

Alfa Romeo presented its new top model, the 2600, at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 1962. Its look was based on the 2000, but the sensation was beneath the bonnet. This was the last time that Alfa Romeo really splurged, fitting a 2.6 litre engine with double cams and an inline six. It has remained the last ‘sei cilindri’ to this day. Like its predecessor, the 2600 was available as a Sedan, built in the company factory, as a Sprint Coupé, manufactured by Bertone, and as a Spider, dressed like a Touring. There were also small numbers of coupés by Zagato and a sedan by OSI. Alfa Romeo priced the cars in the same class as the Maranello and Modena, which explains why so few were produced. Only 2,255 of the stunningly beautiful convertibles were manufactured by the end of 1965.

This Touring Spider in the elegant colour combination of navy blue with a grey interior was originally delivered to the United States, like many of its kind. A second series model, it was fitted with Girling disc brakes on all sides to ensure an appealing delay. This Alfa was acquired by a collector in Germany at the start of the 90s, who commissioned a complete restoration in 1993 and 1994. The engine was converted to Weber carburettor, which, combined with a more sporting camshaft, not only produces a higher speed and passage, but also emits a delightfully sonorous rumble. The consignor bought the Touring Spider in 2011, obtaining Austrian registration in 2012. Its breath-taking and typically Italian appeal remains entirely fascinating to the present day: simple elegance, yet unrivalled glamour!
