Well-kept convertible in a beautiful colour!

In recent years, the transaxle Porsches have started to receive the long-denied respect they deserve as the genuine article. They’ve crossed the vale of tears, and even the prices have risen noticeably. The 944 is still among the fastest, has thorough and sophisticated engineering, and is a truly rugged companion. The last stage in its evolution came 1988 with the launch of the S2. Featuring an enlarged, three-litre displacement and four-valve technology, it reached a maximum power of 211 hp. At the time, it had the largest displacement of all four-cylinder engines in a series vehicle with genuinely miraculous torque. Technically identical to the coupé, the 944 was then released as a convertible in January 1989. But the sophisticated conversion and reinforcement necessary to remodel the coupé’s body were evident in the juicy premium asked for the open-top version. 6,980 convertibles were built between 1989 and 1991.

This 944 S2 convertible has been owned by the consignor for five years. The paint job in strikingly fresh marine blue neatly matches the navy blue roof and the black leather interior. The convertible was given a new cap and shoes – roof and tyres – just recently. The belt and water pump are also new, all of which is confirmed by invoices as a matter of course. The roof is electrically operated as well. The first owner delivered the most extravagant extra in the form of 17-inch cup rims. The only obvious custom features on the S2 are the fitted mirrors from the 968 successor model. Freshly serviced, the 944 convertible is all set to go in the new season.
