Nuremberg 1730, cartouche in the North Pacific “GLOBUS / TERRESTRIS NOVUS / Loca Terrae insigniera / sec praestant Astron et Geogr. / Observationes sistens, / opera/ IOH. GABR. DOPPELMAIERI / M. P. P. / concinne traditus / a/ Ioh. Georg: Puschnero / Chalcographo Norib. / A. C. 1730.” and in the souther hemisphere “Meridianus primus per / Insulam Fer. quae inter Ca. / narias occidentalissima, / ductus est, a quo Parisi- / ensis 20. Gradibis, Nori, / bergensis autem 28. Grad / 40 Minutis distast.”. Hollow paper mâche/gypsum sphere with 12 partially coloured engraved segments, brass meridian ring and hour ring with degree and hour divisions respectively; the oak frame with four turned, ebonised columns and bun feet, the octagonal horizon ring with coloured engraving shows degree divisions, month and day divisions, saints' days and cardinal points. Diameter c. 20 cm, height c. 30 cm.
[The globe in original condition with some damage; a dent near Japan, an old tear from the North Pole through the Pacific, a dent with minor paper loss southeast of Madagascar, browned paper, horizon ring heavily darkened and with some paper loss]
