(key M form M4), the "Marine-Enigma", Berlin 1944, manufactured for the Kriegsmarine by the Chiffriermaschinen Gesellschaft Heimsoeth und Rinke oH, type plate with designation "M", serial number "8546", production mark "jla" and year "44", black lacquered metal case, reversing roller "M8546", the roller set consisting of 3 (of originally 4) identical-numbered rollers (8546) made of bakelite, aluminium and brass (I, III and the "Greek roller" Beta), plug board made of ebonite numbered 1-26, QWERTZ keyboard, incandescent bulb panel with petrol blue plastic cover, interior with metal label "Nur Glühlampen mit 12 mm Durchmesser verwenden" [Use only incandescent bulbs with 12 mm diameter], below two semicircular metal labels "Kabelprüfung / Lampenprüfung" [Cable test / bulb test], the inside of the box also numbered "8546", on top metal label "Zum Betrieb / mit eingebauter / Batterie / Stecker heraus. / 4 Volt" [For operation / with built-in / battery / plug out / 4 volts], lock with replica key. Size of metal box (without plug) c. 29 x 26 x 11.5 cm.
[Box slightly bent, heavy paint losses to the bulb panel, 1 roller missing, rust marks]
