A Tureen with ACIS and GALATEA from the “Swan Relief” Dinner Service for Count Brühl with the Brühl-Kolowrat-Krakowsky Alliance Coat of Arms, - Works of Art

porcelain, oval lid, in the centre Acis and Galatea both with naked torso, the nymph Galatea astride a dolphin, holding the reins in her left hand, with her right hand she is holding the coral-red arching drapery with golden border, Acis sitting on shells and embracing his beloved Galatea with his left arm, his mouth close to her shoulder for a kiss, with his right hand he is also holding the arching drapery that connects them, Galatea is looking into the distance, Acis at her beautiful body, the nymph is adorned with white pearl necklaces in her hair, on the scalloped lid are white blooming branches with gold dots, diverse shells and colourfully painted scattered flowers and flowering branches in the Asian style, the rim set with broad gilding, the body with Nereid children as handles, the heads turned sideways, the facing side with a cartouche with coloured and gold painted alliance coat of arms, framed by golden rocailles and gold shell on top, on the sides small and large white blooming branches with gold dots, snails, coral and shells, white fruits on white sprigs of leaves held by the Nereid children, the body with polychrome painted Indian scattered flowers, the reverse side with cartouche with Indian blooming branches, the oval tureen standing on four feet, on each side 1 dolphin, the mid-section with mascarons of two river gods, height 44 cm, length 36 cm
Meissen, underglaze blue crossed swords mark c. 1960, model no. 05028, former no. 149D, painter no. 3981, model by Johann Joachim Kändler 1736–1740 and Johann Friedrich Eberlein 1738–1742 (Ru)

These porcelains with the “swan relief” are based on the Swan Service of Count Heinrich Brühl, 1700-1763, Prime Minister of the Saxon Elector August the Strong and Polish King August II.
The legendary dinner service was produced in around 1738-1742, comprised c. 2,200 individual pieces and shows the alliance coat of arms of Count Heinrich Brühl and his wife Countess Maria Anna Franziska Kolowrat-Krakowsky;
