Lorenzo Pasinelli attributed to, - Master Drawings, Prints before 1900, Watercolours, Miniatures

(1629–1700) Saint Anthony Raising a Dead Man, red and black chalk, on laid paper, laid down old on another laid paper, 29,2 x 25 cm, browned, somewhat stained, unmounted, unframed, (Sch)

Provenance:
Private collection, Italy.

With a certificate of Dr. Nicosetta Roio (in copy).

The drawing is related to the large-scale painting by Lorenzo Pasinelli which was executed for the chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua in the church San Francesco in Bologna between 1675–1688 and is now preserved in the Cappella del Sacramento in San Petronio. According to Dr. Nicosetta Roio the present study is a design by Pasinelli’s own hand for the painting. The drawing largely corresponds to the completed composition and may have been made in the last phase of drafting the work shortly before the final version of the painting. For the painting by Pasinelli, see: C. Baroncini, Lorenzo Pasinelli, Stefano Patacconi Editore, Rimini 1993, No. 60, pp. 294–297.
