In 1952, Nash sent his models into the race with new clothes. The tailor was called Pininfarina, Golden Anniversary Airflyte the design. And somehow something out of the ordinary could always be expected from Nash: a mixture of spaceship and bumper cars, futuristic Jet Age blossoms yet reminiscent of European streamline artists, and still as American as can be. A large, in-line six-cylinder was busy working under the hood and because of the symbiosis with Donald Healey at the Sarthe didn’t turn out so badly, the Ambassador also received the Le Mans package with two carburetors. As a side note, we owe our cooler travels today to Nash, because modern air conditioning today has its origins in the Ambassador. Nash called its groundbreaking air conditioning and ventilation system “Weather Eye”.

The Nash Ambassador is not only a quirky, but an extremely rare species. What makes this Country Club Hardtop Version so unique, however, is the fact that it was delivered to Vienna in 1954 by Denzel. In a time when half of Vienna was riding bicycle and dreaming about Volkswagen, someone rolled this spaceship through the streets of the resurgent city. The identity of this mystery driver is unfortunately still unknown to this day, because the last owner issued new papers in 1981 after buying the car from an insolvent estate. Afterwards, the Nash spent some time in a showroom on Dresdner Straße until it disappeared and again only recently reappeared. Largely untouched, this piece of Viennese automotive history is now waiting for a new astronaut to take it on new journeys to the stars!
