1938 BMW 320 Cabriolet Convertible
Older, extremely extensive restoration!
As a successor to the mid-class models the 319 and the 329, BMW revealed the Type 320 in July 1937, equipped with the new BMW 1.971 cc "standardised engine". The 320 was smaller, lighter, and at DM 5,250 cheaper than the successfully launched 326, but it still clearly inherited its style.
This convertible was delivered on June 4, 1938, to the Gerhard Guse company in Breslau. As the BMW certificate shows, the car was given a factory-fitted replacement engine with the number 96617, which is still installed today. In 1982, the previous owner bought the BMW still ready to drive, so that he could then restore it by 1987. In the middle of the nineties he had the convertible professionally restored, very much according to the expression "in for a penny, in for a pound". Body off with a new wooden substructure, new interior and a new roof. He also had the mechanics completely overhauled and the driver's seat console lowered. Although 20 years have passed since the restoration it is still in a great condition, as is the legendary running of its six-cylinder motor. Numerous extra details capture the imagination and confirm the high standards striven for with this Bavarian automobile. In 2006, the BMW was acquired by the current owner to become part of an extensive BMW collection. There it was well protected, but hardly ever used. The 320 comes with a servicing and a positive German vehicle inspection certificate. A fine car, valiantly motorised and therefore best suited for relaxed touring!
