1966 Mercedes-Benz 250 SE Coupé

1966 Mercedes-Benz 250 SE Coupé - Classic Cars

Extensively and meticulously restored in Austria!

In August 1965 Mercedes introduced the 250 SE. The engine was ramped up to 150 HP through extra boring, whereupon the previously sophisticated coupés and convertibles took on a much more nonchalant character thanks to this upgrade. Since the 280 SE was then introduced in 1967, the 250 series then became the least common variant.

According to its vehicle registration certificate this manual gearbox 250 SE was first registered in Rendsburg on December 22, 1966, equipped with an electric sunroof, leather seats and a "Becker Europa TR” radio. On May 9, 1975, a new service logbook was started at 65,219 km from the MB showroom in Elmshorn, probably because of its new engine. This was installed using the original engine number. In 2014, the current owner bought the coupé in an allegedly good condition. During servicing, the discovery of bodywork metal defects led to a professional complete restoration of the bodywork. Since it was disassembled right down to the chassis, the rear axle was also restored and the chassis parts were renewed. The engine was also restored and numerous other "minor issues" were corrected. Photos and spare parts invoices totalling 14,900 euros confirm the extensive work as well as the 1,380 hours of time invested. This is certainly a coupé of exceptional quality, with great driving characteristics and extensively renovated mechanics. And although many other things have been restored or renewed, the coupé still retains many original features. Even if the body gives reason to suspect it of being a brand new car!
