1969 Triumph TR 5 P.I.

1969 Triumph TR 5 P.I. - Classic Cars

Delivered to Germany, in Austria since 2001!

The TR 5 - the crowning glory of the model series - is a further development of the somewhat aged TR 4. The highlight was and remains a 2.5-litre, six cylinder engine that delivered 143 hp thanks to its Lucas injection system, catapulting the TR 5 into the exclusive club of 200 km/h automobiles. But the injection system was modern, too much to handle for many garages and damaged the image. Production was halted after just two years and 2,947 units, with the successor models already in place. Today, the TR 5 is the rarest of all Triumph roadsters, making it also the most coveted by the British manufacturer!

This Triumph was first registered in Germany on 24 January 1969. It was exported to Austria and registered there back in 2001. By then the TR 5 had already been overhauled, its coat of paint replaced with a fiery orange and the interior newly decked out with synthetic leather, seats with headrests and the injection system replaced with the carburettor by SU. The roadster comes with the dismantled Lucas system as well. After all, what proved so tricky back then is hardly witchcraft these days, and the car can be restored to its original condition if its new owner prefers. As a rare, left-hand drive TR 5, the roadster is a source of immeasurable pleasure for its driver, so we can only hope that the upcoming summer will hang around for a long time!
