The present composition is an example of Ascanio Luciano’s repertoire of forms and his comprehensive understanding of perspective. His skill for architectural painting is exhibited by the depiction of pictorial space. In the right foreground of the present painitng the palace portico is carried by a Corinthian column, and behind stretches a loggia, a row of cypresses closes the picture to the left creating a skillfuly increased sense of spatial depth. The foreground is enlivened with rich elegant figures. and their treatment displays the influence of Domenico Gargiulo.

Ascanio Luciano, also known as Pseudo-Codazzi, was primarily known as an architectural painter. He was probably a pupil of Codazzi who was resident in Naples between 1634 and 1647-8. In 1665 Luciano is documented as a member of the Corporazione dei Pittori Napoletani. He died in Naples in 1706.
