1960 BMW 502 2600 Luxury

1960 BMW 502 2600 Luxury - Classic Cars

Delivered to Vienna!

Presented 1954, the 502 by BMW was Germany’s first post-war passenger car with eight cylinders. Essentially adopted from the 501, the body was slightly modernised, forming a harmonious unit with the light alloy engine. And however much the press sung the praises of its design and innovation, initially at least, the car was considered obsolete when production ended 10 years later. More than that, BMW had overstretched its financial resources by investing in the luxury class, and only through the release of the Isetta and the New Class did it managed to stave off bankruptcy.

This car was once delivered to Vienna, fresh off the assembly line. The second owner never drove the BMW, while its third one set about restoring it completely. The fourth owner purchased it in 1998, and his foible for technical perfection prompted him to refurbish the brakes, engine, clutch, front axle and much more over the years. The BMW has been part of a larger collection since 2012, although it has been driven regularly, maintained and improved. Just recently inspected, it is an entirely roadworthy vehicle with an impressive exterior to match its pristine interior. The engine beneath the bonnet is fascinating, lending the sedan its special status as a luxury vehicle from yesteryear. These premium class cars from the post-war period are rare anyway, all the more so with an Austrian history!
